OPENING
AN ACCOUNT ... HOW IT WORKS
|
If you have a CD
you're distributing and selling independently, you can also sell it
here at Woodstock CD. Shoppers can purchase your
CD by credit card using our secure system.
- We'll create a web page for your CD here on our
site.
- We'll list the CD cross-referenced by
style and by artist name.
- We'll scan the front
insert page to create a graphic image of the CD for the page.
- We'll
sample the first 2 minutes from up to 3 tracks of your choice and put
them on your web page in high quality MP3 format so visitors can preview
the CD.
- We'll do fulfillment for
you. ("Fulfillment" is an business
term. Basically, we'll add our postage charges to the
credit card transaction, make a shipping label, stuff the
CD in a box and mail it to your
buyer.)
- We'll send you html code to
create a direct link to your CD's page on the Woodstock
CD website. Something like this one ...

You set the selling
price. You write the text for the CD's page. When
a sale is made, Woodstock CD
will deduct a 33% commission and
pay you the balance. Quarterly, we'll send you a
statement of sales, along with payment for CDs sold. If
you list the CD for $15, you'll be making $10 per sale -
probably what you're selling it for at a live gig.
| We
get an occasional complaint that isn't a fair deal. Obviously you can sell a CD yourself for $15, keep the money,
do your own fulfillment and cover the expenses. But keep in mind
that credit
card processing, handling, accounting, advertising, inventory storage and website
related expenses come out of
our 33%. We do add shipping costs to the total, but that's
a break-even thing. What you're paying us for is
the resource to make a credit card sale over the internet and have someone ship it for
you. You don't have to worry about taking a bad check. You won't
lose an internet sale if you're on the road. You can make a sale in foreign currency.
Amazon.com takes 50% for that. And their customer
service consists of automated computer responses.
They put other people's
ads on YOUR page. They charge you a monthly fee to keep
your CD in the catalog. They require a registered
barcode. And the final insult - unless you're
racking up big number sales, they won't keep your CDs in
inventory; So customers wait 2-3 weeks or longer for delivery.
I really
hate that last bit. That's why I stopped putting
my CDs with Amazon and started this website.
Your call.

There's a one-time $15 account setup fee, which covers the cost of
setting up the CD page, scanning, sampling, etc. (Actually, it
doesn't cover it; But it helps.)
|
|
In short, here's the
procedure:
- Open an account for the CD
by filling out the online submission form on the next page.
- Woodstock
CD will email you
back to let you know the account has been opened and with
instructions.
- Send 6 copies of the CD to Woodstock
CD. 5 copies are to keep in inventory; The 6th
copy needs to be opened so the insert can be scanned and
tracks sampled. (That copy can't be sold
since it's been opened and used.) Include the $15 registration fee, payable to
Woodstock CD.
- We'll notify you by email
if we run out of stock and need more copies to sell.
